Romania's National Gambling Office (ONJN) has obtained access to the mirror servers of all licensed online gambling operators in Romania, marking a fundamental shift in the regulatory authority's oversight capabilities.
What Mirror Server Access Means
A mirror server is an exact, real-time copy of an operator's primary server. Through access to these systems, ONJN can directly download all 12 mandatory fiscal reports that operators are required to provide, without depending on the voluntary submission of data by companies.
Why This Was Necessary
Previously, ONJN relied largely on reports submitted by operators, which created a systemic vulnerability. The recent tax fraud scandal demonstrated that this vulnerability had been actively exploited by some operators.
Impact on Operator Compliance
Real-time access to data fundamentally changes the compliance equation for operators licensed in Romania. Where irregularities could previously go unnoticed for months or years, they can now be detected almost immediately. Operators who play by the rules have nothing to fear.
