The Online Gaming Authority of India (OGAI) is now operational. Constituted by MeitY as part of the suite of notifications issued on April 22, 2026, the OGAI is the central pillar of India's new online gaming regulatory framework — a quasi-judicial body with wide-ranging powers over the classification, registration, and enforcement of online gaming activities in India.

Structure and Composition

The OGAI is headquartered in New Delhi and operates as a digital-first regulatory office attached to MeitY. It is a multi-departmental body including Joint Secretary-level representatives from the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, and Ministry of Sports.

What Powers Does the OGAI Have?

The OGAI holds extensive regulatory authority. Its core functions include maintaining the public list of prohibited online money games, issuing registration codes for permitted social gaming platforms, handling player complaints and appeals, issuing directions to internet service providers and payment processors, and coordinating with financial institutions and law enforcement on enforcement actions.

The Blacklist

One of the OGAI's most significant ongoing responsibilities is maintaining and updating a public blacklist of prohibited online games and platforms. This will be the definitive reference for ISPs required to block access to prohibited platforms, and for payment processors required to refuse transactions.
