Romania's National Gambling Office (ONJN) has joined the Gambling Regulators' European Forum (GREF), an international cooperation body that now brings together 44 regulatory authorities from across Europe.
What GREF Is
The Gambling Regulators' European Forum is a platform for cooperation and information sharing between gambling regulatory authorities in European states. The organisation's primary objective is facilitating cross-border coordination in combating illegal operators and harmonising compliance standards.
What Membership Means for Romania
By joining GREF, ONJN gains access to a network of information about operators blacklisted in other European states, facilitating faster blocking of these platforms for Romanian players as well.
Regional Context
The accession to GREF comes at a time when Romania has significantly intensified its efforts to combat illegal gambling. The rate of removal of illegal gambling content from Meta, Google and TikTok platforms has reached 98%.
